Campus Ministry takes a leading role in fulfilling the mission of Saint Marcellin Champagnat at Central Catholic: to make Jesus known and loved among young people. The careful cultivation of the religious environment of the school through daily prayer and the maintenance of sacred spaces; the celebration of faith in school-wide worship; conducting retreats and other spiritual experiences for the spiritual growth of our students; the coordination of various service projects designed to allow students to express their faith in action: in all of these ways and more, Campus Ministry fosters the development of religious belief and practice. While Central Catholic respects and affirms the religious identity of our non-Catholic students, our campus ministry programs reflect our Marist heritage and spirituality and the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.

MINISTRY BY YOUTH, FOR YOUTH

Saint Marcellin Champagnat's first disciples who joined him in his mission to young people were teenagers themselves. In this tradition, Campus Ministry welcomes and develops the leadership capacities of our students who are called to minister to their schoolmates. There are three primary options for students to serve through campus ministry:

  1. Campus Ministry Team is a welcoming, purpose driven group of students who are responsible for planning, facilitating and evaluating Campus Ministry activities. The team seeks to promote the CCHS mission, to make Jesus known and loved, and is made up of seven committees: Daily Prayer, Hospitality, Liturgy, Missions, Music Ministry, Retreats and Service. Applications are available at the end of the school year, but new members may apply to join throughout the year.

  2. The Central Catholic community gathers for Liturgies and Prayer Services several times a year. Priests from local parishes and schools preside during school-wide liturgies. Students participate as Eucharistic Ministers, lectors, altar servers, ushers, musicians and singers.

Prayers Services include class-wide Prayer Service, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Penance during Lent & Advent

  3. Homeroom Representatives: Each homeroom appoints a Campus Ministry Representative. Homeroom Reps are responsible for Missions collections and serve as liaisons between their homerooms and Campus Ministry. Elections take place in homeroom at the beginning of each year.

  4. Retreat Team Leaders are responsible for planning and leading Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior Encounter retreats. For more info on retreat programs, click here.

Retreat Team Leader applications are available throughout the school year for students interested in serving as team leaders for these retreats.

  5. ONE DAY is a school wide Christian service learning program based on the mission of CCHS. It focuses on serving others, especially the least favored—“those who are excluded from the mainstream of society, and those whose material poverty leads them to be deprived also in relation to health, family life, school and education in values.” (In the Footsteps of Marecellin Champagnat). Students volunteer through GUTS (Guys and Gals United to Serve) as well as other long term service opportunities.

See the ONE DAY pamphlet for more info.
